Working Principle

The electric holding furnace maintains molten metal temperature through resistance heating elements embedded in the furnace walls or immersed in the metal. A thermocouple continuously monitors the melt temperature and feeds data to a PID controller, which modulates power to the heating elements to maintain the set temperature within ±5°C. The furnace is designed with minimal heat loss through high-quality insulation, requiring only enough energy to compensate for radiation losses and heat removed during metal withdrawal. The metal level is maintained by periodic transfer from the melting furnace, and the holding furnace serves as a buffer to decouple melting and casting operations for optimal production scheduling.
